What is positive psychology?
According to Martin Seligman, the founder, positive psychology can be described as:
“The study of what constitutes the pleasant life,
the engaged life, and the meaningful life.
Positive psychology is the scientific study of human flourishing, and an applied approach to optimal functioning. (Source: Positive Psychology Institute)
In simpler terms, positive psychology is an evidence based approach to uncovering people’s strengths and promoting their positive functioning. Most life coaching programs use strategies and techniques rooted in positive psychology.
Life coaching is different from therapy in that it is rooted in the present and is goal oriented. Some clients use a single coaching session to talk through a problem and identify a solution, while others may prefer longer term partnerships to help stay the course for living a life that reflects one’s values and ideals.
